Frequently Asked Questions

The section below has some of our most common questions and answers. Locate a question you would like an answer to and click on the title, or the + symbol on the right. The box will open up to reveal the answer.

Q. What kind of volunteer roles are available at Home-Start Tamworth?

A. We need volunteers to help out with our Family Groups. We like having volunteers to help run our charity shop on King Street, sorting donations and preparing items for the shop floor or helping customers with sales. We also appreciate volunteers with business skills who would like to join the Trustee Board. We are always grateful for any help a volunteer would like to give!

Q. I think I’d like to be a volunteer for Home-Start; what qualifications do I need?

A. You need to have parenting experience and a caring, understanding attitude to young families who are experiencing difficulties to become a home-visiting volunteer. To volunteer in our parents and tots groups, it is helpful to have either parenting experience or experience working with children in an educational setting but not a necessity.

Q. How do I apply to be a volunteer?

A. If you are interested in volunteering for Home-Start Tamworth please contact us on 01827 62400 or contact us

Q. What is the commitment for Home-Start volunteers?

A. You need to be able to offer to visit a family once or twice a week for a couple of hours each time. The initial training is a Preparation Course that runs one day a week for up to 10 weeks, and other training days are offered bi-monthly. You will also have regular contact with the Home-Start co-ordinators. To help at our groups, you could do just one group a week or more if you would like. Helping in the shop could simply be an afternoon you have free!
