Group Support

Family pressures can sometimes be difficult to manage without emotional support and guidance around you.

As well as volunteers who visit you in your home, many Home-Start Tamworth also run groups to provide further support, as well as social connection, for parents based around activities for babies and children. These can be a chance for children to learn, play and have fun with other children, as well as an opportunity for parents to meet others who are going through the same kind of experience.

Attending a group can be a great place for parents to pick up advice, tips and help from Home-Start and other parents.

Our trained staff and volunteers from the Tamworth branch (pictured above) will also be on hand to make sure groups are a safe space for you to share experiences and receive peer support.

Home-Starts may organise occasional group outings, or other activities, that bring local families together.

“I was exhausted and overwhelmed; I thought it was just me but now I realise now that other parents often feel the same. I was a bit worried about going somewhere new, but Nahied the group worker and all the volunteers made me feel really welcome and now we attend every week. The group is relaxed and stress free,  the children all get involved with the activities and its good to see other parents. I recommend giving it a try” – Quote from a parent about attending Home-Start Tamworth group

Finding urgent healthcare

We all want the quickest route to urgent healthcare – but we’re not always sure where to turn.

NHS 111 is often the best starting point, as you’ll be directed to the best service for your needs. Did you know they can book you urgent appointments with a GP outside normal opening hours? Go online, phone 111, or use the NHS App.

Find a pharmacy
Struggling with a sore throat or sinusitis? Most pharmacies can now supply prescription medication for these and five other common conditions, without you needing to see a GP first. You can find out more on this NHS webpage: https://www.england.nhs.uk/primary-care/pharmacy/pharmacy-first/

The NHS service finder is an easy way to find a nearby pharmacy and check opening times. https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy

Urgent dental care
If you need urgent dental care in the evening or at the weekend, and you are registered with a dentist, try their answering service first, as it may have useful advice.
You could also try the Staffordshire Dental Advice Line on 0300 123 0981 – or contact NHS 111 for advice on urgent dental care.

Eye concerns
If you are concerned about an eye problem that developed suddenly, like flashes, floaters or sudden vision loss, the Community Urgent Eyecare Service can provide urgent appointments. If you’re registered with a local GP (except East Staffordshire) you can book directly with an optician that offers the service. Look online at https://primaryeyecare.co.uk/find-a-practice/

NHS 111 can also advise on urgent eye care.

Urgent mental health support
For support in a mental health crisis, day or night, call our South Staffordshire helpline on 0808 196 3002 or email mhsi.staffordshire@mpft.nhs.uk. More information is available at https://www.mpft.nhs.uk/emergency-help
